Gout Stories and relief from gout

Gout has been a part of my life for the past twenty years. I recall my first atack, when my big right toe swelled out of shape and became inflamed and untouchable. The only time I heard of gout was in the Jigg's comic strip. When the doctor said that I had gout, I said "gout, is that an illness?"
Well I've had my share of attacks over the past number of years and some have been more severe than others. I like wild game, however; that's not on my menu anymore. As well I've cut back on certain seafoods, such as crab and lobster.
Over the years I have taken prescriptions pills and the one a day pill that was supposed to stop the gout attacks. I prefer not to take medication and I have been searching for alternative medicines for my gout problem.
Do you or do you know of someone who get's the gout? Let us hear your story and how you are dealing with this ailment. I have been using Ibuprofen, as an over the counter drug, however; it is important that you consult with your doctor.

Can Bananas help deal with Gout? Bananas help reduce swelling

Swelling causes gout pain due to increased uric acid crystals in the joints. This pain usually occurs in the big toe;

however it can also occur in other joints as well.

Potassium helps bananas lessen painful swelling. This natural element reduces swelling by turning uric acid crystals into a liquid.

This liquid then moves from your joints to your kidneys where your body can get rid of it. Read More

What is purine?

components of certain foods that metabolize into uric acid in the body.

What are some foods?

High uric acid levels associated with gout derive largely from foods rich in protein and purine,

which produce uric acid as a waste product when broken down. Reducing such foods will mean

less material for uric acid formation. You should adjust your dietary patterns to achieve the following:

  1. Less consumption of meat products that have high purine content, such as beef, pork and lamb,
  2. as do organs like liver, kidney, and brain, along with gravy enriched with meat extracts.
  3. Reduction (if not total elimination) of alcoholic beverages, especially beer.
  4. Reduction of mushrooms, legume foods like peas, beans and lentil, and vegetables such as cauliflower, spinach and asparagus.
  5. Avoidance of seafood that contribute to high uric acid levels like cod, anchovies, herrings and sardines, haddock, and fish eggs;
  6. also minimised consumption of mussels and scallops.

Some foods that are recommended:

Bananas, Strawberries, Cherries and Blueberries..preferably fresh. Tomatoes, celery and green cabbage.

Also, drink plenty of good fresh water.
