Deceased friend memories was born today, Jan 16, 2009. I received news that one of my best friends had passed away.
Immediately, stories from my youth, came alive again. He was my best friend until we moved from that community.
We were always together.

Deceased Friend memories will be a place for people to share stories of those who have passed away.

Steve's Best Friend

My best friend, as a youth, was Harvey Farrell. We were born in a little town called Creston,
which is on The Burin Peninsula, in Newfoundland Labrador.  As friends go, we were inseparable.
It may seem strange but we hadn't seen each other for many years after my family moved,
from Creston, in 1958.
Looking back, I recall the following.

Days spent at his house and Sam and Vera (his parents), making me feel as one of the family.
Swimming in The Landing Place Pond, the salt water and the Mill Brook Dam.
Trouting in The Landing Place Pond and The Mill Brook.
Catching connors, eels and sculpins off the various wharves.
Exchanging comics
Eating cheezies.
Rowing a dory in the tickle and crossing to the North Side.
Getting Brown Hodder's scrapped car to The Landing Place Pond for a diving rock.
Playing cowboys and Indians.
Jumping down the hay in the barn and sleeping there overnight.
Berry picking
Picking up empty bottles and hubcaps.
Playing soccer and Piddly Sticks (not sure of the spelling)
Jumping ice clampers  (Some people call them ice bergs)
Pushing a bicycle rim with a piece of heavy wire.
Stilt walking across the Mill Book
Hanging on to the bumpers of cars, in the winter and skidding down the road.
Plus the many more things, that we did together and with other friends.

A Eulogy To Remember

Waterfalls

In memory of a loved one

We thought of you with love today
But that is nothing new,
We thought about you yesterday
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence
We often speak your name,
Now all we have are memories
And your picture in a frame.
Some may think you are forgotten
Though on earth you are no more,
But in our memory you are with us
As you always were before.
A million times we've thought of you
A million times we've cried,
If loving could have saved you
You would have never died.
You left us beautiful memories
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you
You are always at our side.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you did not go alone,
Part of us went with you
On the day God called you home.
Forgive me Lord, I'll always weep
For the best friend I loved, but could not keep.
